*Nutrition Note!

There will now be a little "Nutrition note" listed on most products in the grocery lists either letting you know that a product is "Amanda approved!" or if there are any ingredients listed to be mindful of. Overall, the items chosen on The Fit Foodie grocery lists are healthy and high in quality, but with any processed food it can be hard to 100% avoid additives, gums, fillers, etc.

Overall, if a product contains too many "red flag" ingredients it will not be found on the grocery lists. If there is one or two that will ultimately be fine for occasional consumption, you will find it listed! If there is no nutrition note at all, then you can assume the product has no added junk!

Some ingredients to be mindful of that may be found in TFF grocery items:

  • Gluten - As someone with Celiac disease, most of my grocery recommendations are gluten-free (if there is no indication, assume that it IS gluten-free); anything that is not will be listed as containing gluten. There is nothing wrong with gluten - but I like to specify for those with allergies.
  • Processed seed oils - these are highly processed and inflammatory. Very few of the items on TFF grocery lists contain these, and if they do they are noted.
    • One exception is "high oleic sunflower oil" - this is a seed oil but has overall a healthier fatty acid profile, but is still processed in the same way.
  • "Natural flavors" - this is a broad term that can be used to cover a wide variety of additives. They may not be bad, but they may very well be. If a company has nothing to hide in its ingredients, it will likely display what they all are. So typically natural flavors are a red flag because there are components used to flavor the item that are not shown and therefore could be anything.
  • Preservatives - some products use preservatives for freshness. It's best to moderate these as well.

You will never find trans fats, food dyes, high fructose corn syrup, hydrolyzed corn/gluten/proteins of any kind, or processed or isolated soy products in anything on The Fit Foodie app!
